Would you mind elaborating on that? Is it that these people are in his YouTube comments, maybe on a subreddit? I never followed this guy, I’ve only seen probably less than 5 videos he’s made (likely only 2), one of which was this open source video.
Originally I avoided the guy because he was just a “loud is funny” let’s player, then I heard he said the N word, and i had heard people trying to get him to be the #1 YouTube channel over some music conglomerate.
In any case, while you can do things to attract certain people, I’m not sure how much control you have over your community, which is why I’m asking.

From another thing I read, people have a tendency to not apply enough sunscreen or apply it correctly. I’m sure if everyone did it perfectly it wouldn’t matter. All I know is anecdotally, when I switched to 100 I stopped getting sunburns, and I have been in situations with people who used their own lower spf, got a little burned still, and I came out of it pale white.
The price might be higher, but a quick look on Amazon and I’m seeing more than spf affecting that. The brand I buy is about 1.80 (usd) per ounce, and i see other brands with less spf for more. I see other brands with the same spf for less, and it seems like it’s between ~1.10 per ounce to ~2.80 per ounce so I’m not really bothered by my price. I don’t know anything about the environmental differences between spf so I won’t comment on that.

What’s interesting is the part you paraphrased out, is that they think “nearly no one does that”. This is one of those arguments people make when they don’t realize how much has been done for them. They clearly don’t think it’s an issue because they’ve been protected from it by the moderation they’re bitching about. Maybe around a month ago, several official matrix.org channels had members spammed with CSAM. Not to get graphic but literal babies. It hit my account and i only was part of 3 hosting related channels. This simply does not happen on something like messenger (from Facebook) due to their “censorship”. It’s just a reality that there are awful people out there and even one person can send this stuff out to thousands of people with minimal effort unless there’s proper tools and moderation. These admins aren’t getting burned out just from arguing with people, they’re arguing with people who they’re protecting from seeing vile shit that the admin has to see. Nearly nobody actually wants a fully unmoderated Lemmy instance. Places like Lemm.ee and seemingly lemmy.zip find that balance.
Even if people believe that (and I know they do 🙄) that then gives you a niche for a private business to fill. City store always busy? This private store is more expensive but you don’t have to wait in line as long. People will pay that difference to save time, especially in NYC.

I agree. I don’t know if I got lucky in that i have consistently been told to question things through my life by teachers, by my parents (who don’t question things anymore), by people online.
I also think it’s just how people work. What is it, every dictatorship has used propaganda to convince people they want these things? People heard trump say he needed to be a dictator for a day and they were happy about it. The only difference is it’s easier to do now i would think.
They probably think they are getting the truth so they don’t think they need to look any further into it.
I have seen enough that I know I don’t like and I don’t agree in general with JD Vance, for instance, so I’m not going out to find redeeming qualities about him. I’m also not really watching things from him or trump for that matter. But, my brother who ended up going the opposite way of me politically, said the other day that Vance is “down to earth” and will likely go for president after trump. I see clips all the time of him speaking that show me he’s not down to earth, but I’m also not seeing clips of him tailored to show me that it is true.
I can imagine that if you’re only being fed the positive narratives of your side and only negative things about the “other” side you’re likely to think you already know what’s going on. We also know that both media and the almighty algorithms (like YouTube) will send you down these rabbit holes in the interest of views. If i don’t search, most of what I get about Vance from algorithm based social media are the memes with his distorted face. If that’s all you see, you’re probably coming away with the impression that this guy is a joke. So if you tell me he’s competent and down to earth, my initial reaction is that’s nonsense. Is he? Maybe. It’s not what I see and I’ve felt no need to look for it.
I have always been a nerd on the internet, so i have always been on these kinds of sites like Lemmy, reddit, imgur, old forums, where I can talk to people from all over the world. They have their echo chambers and little bubbles but it’s still a more diverse group of opinions than what you’re fed on sites like Facebook. But the usage on these sites is much lower, most people are not here. They’re either not using social media at all, or they’re on Facebook, tiktok, whatever. They’re only seeing the cropped images, edited clips, news that caters to what they want to believe. If everything’s telling you one thing, including things your friends and family are sharing online, why would you question it.
Most people, at least with a little practice, can imitate SOMEONE. But voice actors tend to be pretty skilled and make it look easier than it is.
