I love it
This is very different from the old sky writing. Is there a giant computer controlled bar that releases the smoke at the right time?
It’s called skytyping. It’s more expensive than regular skywriting because it needs 5 planes but it’s easier to read.
Still cheaper than a smoking daisy wheel.
You seem knowledgeable about this stuff… where can you go in the United States to see actual skywriting? I’ve never seen it, but I’ve always lived the middle of nowhere.
Frequently at popular beaches.
i expected it to be like a long bar with exits you can open and close by computer and that way you could then control it… isn’t 5 planes a bit complicated?
I thought so too but googling for it confirms they use 5 planes.
First company to do it with a single plane towing a long bar will be able to undercut the competition.
Or, unmanned drones.
It’s just snoop dogg breathing out at regular intervals
It uses multiple aligned planes (or perhaps drones at this point?) and yes, it is all computer-controlled.
It’s like a dot matrix printer for the sky
That’s exactly what it is.
i don’t want to be THAT guy, but the companies that operate these planes have done silly things like this in the past, because we will talk about it, and someone will then book it for his birthday
I prefer to be aware of when I’m being advertised to, so I personally appreciate you for keeping that mindset for us.
I prefer to be aware of when I’m being advertised to
Always. the answer is always. Because even when you’re not actively consuming any media, the advertisements (including more subtle things like product placements and viral marketing like this) have already been absorbed and are doing their thing.
Sorry. 😬
Hey if it means we get crude words written in the sky, I’m all for this marketing scheme.
That sounds like a win-win. I’m generally vehemently anti-advertising, but I’m willing to make an exception for skywriting cause it’s rad.
Nothing wrong with that guy. Awareness is a good tool for everyone to have.
Pointing out what it is doesn’t necessarily carry judgment with it, it’s just facts, and you can use them however you like.
Stuff like this makes my day bearable
A millionaire spending fuck you money to sky type deez nuts? Weird.
If it’s a half hour job, 5 planes x $200/hr (conservatively high) x 1/2 hour = maybe $500… And very likely by the company that owns them to get people to talk about it.
Actually a really cheap ad in that case. I’d rather something funny in the sky than yet another annoying ad (costing way more wasted money) on TV…
You realize Google is a thing, correct?
Skytyping can cost more than regular skywriting, starting at $25,000. Skytyping uses five planes instead of one, but it’s a more accurate form of aerial advertising that ensures legibility. A personal skywriting message can cost upwards of $6,000–$8,000, depending on where the few skywriting planes are located at the time you want the message written. Skywriting rates are generally charged per flight hour. A one-hour flight over a major city can cost anywhere from $500 to $5,000.
Again, very few non fuck you money are spending 5k at the low end on deeze nuts. Conservativly high 🤦♂️
You’re not wrong, but think of the number of people this brought joy to.
Is it wasteful? Sure. Is it a bit of a face slap to people living paycheck to paycheck, assuming they’re even that well off? Sure. But is it a net negative? Who can say? Unlike most fuck-you-money splurges, this one probably at least lightened some people’s days for a moment, and that’s not nothing.
Proud of them
“Hey man, you see deez nutz in the sky yesterday?”
“Hey man, did you see that in the sky yesterday?”
“What?”
“Deez nutz.”
How about FUCK U/SPEZ instead? That’d be hilarious.
More likely, one person spent time and effort, and someone else spent money.
I like how the smoke is just a bunch of little poofs. It makes me imagine the pilot pretended to fart and giggle every time.
Something just needs to be expressed.
Gottem
SomeoneA hero. The words you meant to use are “A hero”
Some things just need to be said.
When did skywriting go from analog to digital?
When people got rich enough that the upper-middle class can afford to hire 5 airplanes instead of 1…
100% worth it
