I mean the person in the comment above could do the experiment - go on a keto diet - and see if it makes him feel better. If it worked it would be useful for him. Completely seperate from any other studies

Keto diets can be dangerous and should not be attempted without discussing it with your doctor. The commenter was saying they won’t bother considering it until there is more information. Which is a smart idea.

Studies have shown keto is beneficial for bipolar for over a decade. I think this newest data is just extending it to schizophrenia.

I was reading about the Wahls Protocol (kind of paleo, if I’m reading correctly), and now keto. I honestly don’t like them. I like my potatoes, my tomatoes, corn, fruits, etc. But I might try a balance between my starchy and sweet foods and these diets and see what happens. Just slowly because depressive episodes and executive dysfunction make changes difficult 🐢

    Thank you for the article!

It’s definitely not for everyone. I just started keto last week on my doctor’s recommendation, and it’s been great for me, but I can see it being a nightmare for others. I apparently have a gluten sensitivity because my intestinal issues are basically gone in one week, and the only change is not eating any gluten. And I am finding it surprisingly easy to not eat carbs, but again, that’s me. And it’s only been a week - check in with me in a month when I’m dying for some pasta, lol.

That’s exciting! Weight loss and better mental health while enjoying bacon and high fat foods? It’s seems too good to be true.

It is too good to be true. Doctor told me that keto diet is fine short term for weight loss but can’t recommend long term due to the way that the blood turns slightly acidic, negatively impacting the organs over time.

Ketosis (ketones in blood but not enough to turn acidic) and diabetic ketoacidosis (too much acid in the blood due to lack of insulin) are very different conditions. More. (Edit: clarity)
