Why didn’t the transmission lock stop it? You shouldn’t need a hand brake for your car not to roll. There’s a transmission and an entire big-ass engine to stop free movement. Did they forget to put it in park too?
It was four wheel drive, so it may have been a manual transmission for off-roading, which would be fairly common in those parts. The fact that it was brand new suggests the possibility that they didn’t realize a manual can roll on a steep incline if the handbrake isn’t engaged (of course it could also have simply been left in neutral, regardless of the transmission type).
For some reason I assumed all brand new cars would have automatic parking breaks… Must only be for the mid/high range ones then
Edit: it was a Patrol. I guess the people who hate the electronification of cars can be happy that they’re still making some with a focus on physical/mechanical controls
My car is a Honda from 2015 so maybe it’s changed, but I don’t know any car that has an automatic parking break, so that sounds cool. At the same time, if they put it in park it shouldn’t have rolled unless it was a sharp incline. If it was a manual on the other hand…
