I disagree. Better display, better battery and they adressed a lot of problems with repairability under the hood.
I have the old one. Next iteration will have the same better display along with better cpu/gpu/ram, current battery is more than enough for a day of my gaming needs and I doubt I will ever need to touch a screw let alone a repair. I’m glad there’s an upgrade at the same price for newcomers but it isn’t “radiant” anything.

Exactly. It’s neat that it’s OLED, like the original Samsung Galaxy from 2009, but it’d be pretty neat if they’ve skipped right to 2013 and at least make it FullHD. You’re supposed to overtake competition, not lag a decade behind.
I think you’ve missed the point of both the original Steam Deck and the recent update. Short version is that the screen is deliberately not 1080p because that would make it way more power-intensive, and the OLED version is deliberately not really changing the device specs. Look at some of the rivals/knock-offs which have come out in the last year - all the numbers are bigger, resolution, clock speed, power usage, weight…
People knock the Switch but you’re not gonna do that much better without being noticeably heavier and hotter
Speaking of bigger numbers: Are there even any rivals larger than Steam Deck? The damn thing is wider than my laptop.
I think the point of the original Deck and the recent update are that they have too crappy of a screen to play non-demanding games, too weak hardware to play demanding games and too heavy of a body if what you do is just streaming from a PC.
I feel you’re probably just trolling now, but I’m guessing you’ve never actually used one, or if you have you’re comparing it to a gaming laptop that cost at least twice as much
No, I just daily-drive a OneNetbook 4. Steam Deck is wider than that. Or a GPD Win Max. Or anything reasonably-sized, really.
The resolution is more than fine and I’m speaking from the perspective of an OG deck. Even if they brought the resolution up, the processor and battery wouldn’t be able to keep pace with it.
Its really great! really good display, good battery, good customizability and freedom. It is even pretty cheap for the steam decks performance.
It’s a fantastic backlog killer. Main PC for new titles, steam deck for indies and patient gamer style games.
I got over 600 game and still play the same 5. I’m just able to do it comfortably at work now.
I try to keep it to one longer game, and one shorter game at a time. Right now that’s STALKER Gamma and Signalis, with Signalis on the Steam Deck.
Speaking of, Signalis is fucking amazing, fantastic horror for anyone new to the genre or fans of Silent Hill 2.

Not because I didn’t like it, of course. I stopped because I knew if I played any longer I’d have to drop out.
I lost over 1000 hours on it alone. Currently doing a train world with crazy high resource cost. 100 hours on this one and I just started manufacturing blue science. I’m going to get my ass fired at some point.
I played like 30m of the demo and didn’t like it at all…then later made the huge mistake of giving the demo another go. Spent a couple dozen hours on just the demo. I’m afraid of getting the full game.

Steamdeck is for me everything even new ones like Armored Core, Cyberpunk etc… and indies and even old ones like half life. Everything possible through proton.
Sure, you can play games like Cyberpunk on a Steam Deck! Absolutely true. I just prefer playing more demanding games at higher settings and framerates.
I like to stream from my pc to the deck when I’m feeling like escaping the desk.

If Steam’s built in remote play doesn’t quite meet performance needs then look into Moonlight. That software, with some help from Tailscale, lets me stream Yuzu from home to my deck at work, and I cannot perceive the input lag though I’m no snob.

I’ll get a steam deck as soon as I can detache the controller and put it on my TV like the Switch. While the Deck is probably amazing, it’s what I need to get one, additional to the gaming PC. I always feel chained in, when my controller is made from one part only.
You can plug it into any USB hub to play it on the TV and connect any controller to play from the sofa. They even sell a dock!

Yep, it’s a full PC, you can plug in pretty much anything that works with Linux
Yeah I have a usb dock with HDMI plugged into my TV, and an old Xbox One controller paired to the Deck. Basically works the same as a docked Switch
If you can find them the old steam links still work well.
