Why does Tux have a cute little mace? Is this the year he gets mediaeval on the world?

Switching from Ubuntu to Arch, because I spend more time disabling the default stuff than I do troubleshooting new stuff anyways.

I did that exact switch for the same reason and I have to say, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made in my Linux history!

I’m going to put together a SteamOS system for my daughter with an old 3900X and RX480 so we can play side by side!

This year I made the switch on my gaming PC (Windows to Arch). Next year, my target is replacing my CNC controller system, probably using raspbian on a raspberry model 3. That will bring the Windows count down to 1, which is about as low as my household can go.

LinuxCNC is rock solid. I am a career machinist of 20 years and have used it to run work horse production machines without fault for years. Setting it up can be a nightmare, though. The fact that the distro is Debian based makes the reliability amazing, even after power outages etc. Just make sure you have a dedicated GPU or weirdness can happen.

OK hear me out, I’m going to install boxes on my arch install since I use arch btw, and install Windows 11 in a VM.

I’m then going to sign in with my Microsoft™️ account and give them all my data. Then after my free trail of McAfee™️ and Norton are install, and I play the free games that are included like Candy Crush Saga™️. My VM will evolve from just a VM to a M. I do this until the FBI van arrives as Microsoft sell my data to to Government, or until my beast of a machine slows to a crawl as Microsoft™️ takes more data trying to find a buyer.

Then I will install Oracle™️ VirtualBox™️, and try out new OS’s like Ubuntu and Linux Mint. And when I settle on POP_OS I will free my M (since its prolonged suffering has evolved it from a VM), and install Linux.

Then I will find something wrong with the install, probably complain about SNAPs being an option, or that not all of the software is FOSS. Remove POP_OS and install arch.

TLDR I use arch BTW in both my ssd and my fake HDD on my ssd

Keep using Linux, for the 30th year. Started in '94 with Slackware 1.2, RedHat 1/1.1 in '95 and switched to Debian at the end of '95 (0.93 R5 or R6). I was running OS/2 for my BBS in that time, with a link to my Linux system with internet since august '95. I had a terminal with null-modem cable next to my bed for IRC, 10 Mbit connection at my room. (campus of UTwente in the Netherlands)

Was fun messing about with that stuff.

Graphen OS will come when I buy my next phone, but currently I’m fine with my old phone. It is slow after almost 5 years, but it’s still fine.
