Me and some friends are going out this weekend to see this summer’s hottest flix: Oppenhiemer and barbie.

While these two films are in practically polar opposite genres. I feel viewing them together will helps us enjoy them both more!

Both films focus on extremely influencial american icons. Barbie and oppenhiemer aka the nuclear bomb.

Obviously, Theres a lot that could be discussed about each figure individually. But thats kinda why I feel its good to view them together. The constrast can help us appreciate both genres and characters.

There are many serious and deep question we could ask when discussing both films and i welcome these conversations but im going to try and keep it light for now:

Topics to ponder on pre -viewing:

Who is more influencial oppenhiemer or barbie?

Barbie came after the nuke, what influcences did the bomb have on barbie. See bikini atoll.

Who would win in a phyical fight Barbie or Oppenheimer? ( barbie can tag-in Ken ) ( Oppenheimer is allowed 1 gadget of his own design)

Who would win in a game of chess? Barbie or Oppenheimer? The game is timed and Oppenheimer must answer ken’s questions about the rules.

Please discuss whatever you like about these films separately or together!

I will make another post after viewing discuss the films in-depth.

See y’all soon!

Regarding Chess, within theore of the Barbie movie all Barbies are Barbie. I don’t want to spoil much (not that it is major) but they refer to each other as Barbie in the trailer so that feels like a safe thing to mention. So presumably there’s a Grandmaster Barbie somewhere who would beat Oppenheimer. But if it’s just Oppenheimer versus the main Barbie (Margot Robbie’s) then I don’t know because I don’t know if Oppenheimer played Chess.

I think the real question is could Oppenheimer get laid by Barbie. Now, I know what you’re thinking, what the hell? Here’s the thing. The protagonist Barbie is not very interested in Ken so she’s not very sexualized (well, at least in the sense of having sex). Meanwhile, somewhat surprisingly, Oppenheimer was quite a ladies man. He had a communist mistress. So the question of would they end up together is not that far fetched of a question.

I think the real question is could Oppenheimer get laid by Barbie.

We are about to open the door to a dangerous line of questions. But we must continue our research.

I think Oppenheimer would shoot his shot, and maybe even get a date with Barbie. but about 3/4 into the evening Barbie realizes he is more focused on himself and doesnt have the time or energy required for Barbie.

They still hook up. But barbie doesnt call him back later.

Oppenheimer still think about barbie from time to time.

A fan edit replacing his mistress with Barbie could be interesting. Like instead of being questioned for his association with communism he is questioned for his association with dolls.

          Spoilerzzzzz

The Barbie Movie was surprisingly anticapitalist. Its really not that far of a jump.

There was a puffpiece written a few weeks ago where some staffer working for the Oppenheimer film stated that christopher nolan said, that he didnt like the two movies coming out at the same time. Who knows if this is true.

From there a bunch of forced probably fake drama has been floating around on the internet, where tabolids are trying to create a rivalry between the movies. Even ryan gosling and other unrelated celebrities commented on it. Most just stated that people can see two movies in one weekend.

Ultimately its probably just a marketing technique.

For me, i Just really like the idea of barbenhiemer.
