So, I know that there are loads of great speedcubing timers out there, but I’ve always felt that these are half solutions that leave a lot of manual work for the user of the timer to do things like synchronising solves between devices.

As a Computer Scientist and hobbyist speedcuber, I felt that I am in a unique position to offer a solution to this problem.

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been developing a new speedcubing timer that (for now; open to suggestions) I am calling QubeTime. Although QubeTime is in BETA right now and most of the eventual functionality is still missing, I thought I should release it to the public so that I can get feedback as soon as possible.

With that in mind, please send me your suggestions and feel free to contact me using my business email.

The current list of planned features include:

  • Multi-device cloud synchronisation
  • In-depth solve statistics.
  • Import/export to/from all major* speedcubing timers.
  • Easy solve sharing with link previews. (Twitter cards, etc…)
  • ?? Speedcubing news bulletins ??
  • User solve comments.

TL;DR I’m building a new speedcubing timer, it’ll have lots of cool features.

I’d like to note that all of the standard csTimer features that everyone has come to know and love are also in the planned feature set although they don’t (necessarily) appear above.

I use an app called Twisty Timer and the only problem I have with it is that I have to manually select a different profile (?) for when I’m practicing PLL and OLL, otherwise it fucks up the statistics.

So can I suggest that, if you put in an OLL/PLL trainer section, that you keep their times separate from the main cube timer?

Also a slow solve / fast solve profile would be nice. I like to cube while I’m watching TV and don’t want those stats in with when I’m actually trying to be quick.

Then it’s just a case of making the UI nice and intuitive so I’m not looking for a guide on how to use the fucking thing.

Good luck, I look forward to seeing what you make

Very cool! In the past when I’ve switched apps for whatever reason (one crashes, I lose things, or lots of time passes and I forget where all my old stats are), I have just started fresh. It’s kind of fun to constantly get new records for Ao12, Ao100, PB for a few weeks :)

But yes, even better would be to move all my stats to the new timer… so thank you, this sounds great.

@[email protected] @[email protected] Thank you for your responses. Those are excellent suggestions and I will most likely end up integrating them into the timer. I’m glad to hear there are some people looking forward to the release of this project.

I’m getting ready to release the source for community contribution, so stay tuned for that.

I have also been made aware that there exists a timer out there named Cubetime. I am not affiliated by them in any way and they are the main reason that the name of this project will likely change.
