After 23 years of film criticism, I was back in front of the screen as a civilian. I had no idea what I would find. --by former NY Times film critic A.O. Scott

For me it’s an excuse to get out, have a meal, and basically date my SO. Is it better than a quality home theater? No. Is it cheaper than Netflix? No. But for me, that’s not the point. Value isn’t always measured in dollars.

i find some movies more fun in a full theater too. there is a theater in my neighborhood that is also a full service bar (no kids allowed) and we always make a point of seeing comedies there.

With few exceptions I find that being in a theater improves the experience. At home I can pause and go pee, I can eat normal food, and I don’t have fucking dry eye from the AC blasting.

I stopped going to the movie theaters after tickets were $11 and a hot dog was $7. Bringing my family cost me $90.

I no longer go to big theater chains, and only go to small theaters which has dinner meals and play movies that are at least 6 months old.
