I agree that Romney comes out looking pretty good in the piece. I think it’s largely due to contrast - he’s being held up against a bunch of nuts and party shills. And setting aside my political differences with the guy, IMO he does have a moral compass and critical self-awareness. His worst moments have come during campaigns when he squelched those traits in order to pander to the Republican base.
