Keeping my dogs away from others in public is, in my opinion, a considerate responsibility to the community in recognition of diverse preferences. So, I am very careful not to let my dogs engage with people unless the person approaches us. When they do, our little pack loves it 🙂

“Sorry, they’re not good with strangers.”
“No worries! Wouldn’t want to stress them out…”
