I caught the flu today. After much DayQuill and sleeping, I eventually found myself laying in bed playing Pokemon Ultra Moon on my 3DS. I originally was just working on transferring my Sonny dex over to Home, but then decided “fuck it, let’s start on the Alola dex too”. So I booted up the game and started it.
Funnily enough, the first time I played this game back in 2020, I played the OG version and not Ultra, because I thought Ultra was a direct sequel situation like Black & White 2. I only found out they were an expanded version after beating the originals.
For my Pokemon I ended up picking Litten. Its evolutions scare me though so I’m going to slap a Everstone on it to keep it from learning to be Bipedal.
While on my way to finish the tutorial, I noticed this truck which I want to know how the fuck it got in there. I feel like it’d be a pain to get in and out due to the angle. Also this town feels very redundant to have a truck for. The thing is so damn walkable that I could probably sprint from one side to the other.
Finally, I wanted to share my party. The Starter was following a trend I have of naming them after different Devices in my collection, and the rest were all made up on the fly based on what I could come up with. Bill’s Full name is “Bill Staleback” for some reason. It just came to me in the middle of my fever. Todd Howard came from my HG run when I was younger where I named everything I caught a variation of Todd Howard.
Hope you feel better soon.
Imo the OG version is overall better, Ultra version add a lot of pokemon you can catch, making the game even more easier. The limited pokemon you can have in the og version makes the game more akin to the earlier pokemon game. It still easier of course. Except the final boss, that thing slap in both the fight and the music, so that’s one win for Ultra.
Also i like the og story more, ultra seems like they just slap a new story on top of the old one but forgot to smoothen out the edge.
I don’t know much about the Ultra Story line, but from what i do know about it (Ultra Beasts and Team Rainbow Rocket), it just really doesn’t do it for me
Rainbow Rocket is post game stuff iirc.
It is, randomly happens in the festival plaza after the main plot. Honestly not that interesting despite the premise, there’s barely any plot to be found, just the most basic excuse to have you fight a couple battles with past villains and it’s over very quickly. They’d advertised so much around Rainbow Rocket that I was a bit disappointed.
I agree about the story part.
Worst part IMO is that original SuMo had the most interesting antagonist the series ever had, and Ultra decided fuck that, let’s rewrite that character in the most boring way possible and drop a random threat out of nowhere instead.
Yeah, i feels like ultra take away the motive of og lusamine but still retain her craziness, so the sudden change of her motive midgame feels so weird. What worst is she still treat her child the same way in the beginning. OG Guzma is a big bully because he follow Lusamine order but ultra Guzma just doesn’t have the reason to be a bully. It’s weird.
Maybe unpopular opinion, but USUM is my favorite Pokemon game. The graphics were great and fitting, and it had a nice cozy feel with a banger OST.
Going from that to SwSh broke my heart. I literally just wanted a less pixelated USUM and instead they „evolved“ to that weird plastic/clay look like so many other Nintendo-close franchises…
I‘d say I‘m excited for an USUM remake in the future, but I don‘t think they‘d go with the vibrant and clean anime look anymore, and that‘d be over half my excitement gone.
USUM feels like the franchises often forgotten title i feel like. I really enjoyed the OGs, and though the whole Ultra Beast thing in USUM doesn’t really interest me, it is nice to have more content. I agree with the graphics and Soundtrack too, tropical things don’t really do it for me, but Sun and Moon i really enjoyed the OST for
I started giving the pokemon I caught a funny nickname. It gives me extra chuckle everytime.
I stopped naming most of my pokemon as a kid because I would choose a name that fit the initial form but wasnt always good for the evolutions. Plus I couldnt remember all of the evolution names and wanted to see those. I always name my Link “Lonk” in zelda games though and it makes me chuckle every time
