The court’s Republican justices denied Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper’s motion requesting Berger Jr.’s recusal on Friday, writing that the Senate leader was involved in the case in an official capacity only — not a personal one.

Naked corruption. Why do we let them get away with shit like this? You can’t have a fair fight with a group who believes the ends justify the means because they’ll cheat at every opportunity.

Why do we let them get away with shit like this

Because at some point people kept voting in republicans, which led to a R house, R senate, R Supreme Court, gerrymandered-to-shit-and-back districts ensuring R representatives forever, so what can even be done about it? We could appeal to the Supreme Cou—oh wait. We could pray for a democratic govern—oh wait, they’ll keep getting overridden. Long shot: summon Sherman to come back for another pass?

I always find these rulings to be so ridiculous. They say the judge can be trusted to not be impartial so we don’t need to recuse him. Why does the recusal system exist if judges can be trusted to be impartial about matters they have a personal stake it? The exception eclipses the rule here.
